Instead of Christmas cards…
The festive season can be tough at the best of times, but with the pandemic creating the need to self-isolate causing some to lose income, as well as reduced hours, job losses, or a lack of help for those who don’t meet Covid-19 financial support criteria, Food Bank support is even more important this year.
All year round, there’s a team of incredibly dedicated and hardworking people sorting and packing food donations at Blandford Food Bank+ (BFB+) and due to an increased demand for the vital service they provide, they had to move premises this year in order to be able to meet it. Also, due to Covid-19, they’ve had to stop people collecting parcels and adapt to provide delivery of food parcels – not an easy feat.
The + part of BFB+, is because not only do they provide vital food for those who have nowhere else to turn, they also offer free debt advice and support during school holidays with the holiday voucher scheme.
With Food Banks up and down the country having to meet increased demand and physical fundraising events unable to go ahead causing charities to lose a significant portion of funding, we thought rather than send cards – some of which are likely to land on an office doormat and not be read until after Christmas – we would make a £300 donation to Blandford Food Bank.
If you would like to learn more about the absolute superheroes and what they do or join us in making a donation, you can donate via their website here. If you’re local and would like to help by donating food, they often post what they’re most in need of on their Facebook page so it’s worth giving them a follow.
This year has been difficult for everyone, and all of us at Prodigy wish you a safe and Happy Christmas and New Year with our fingers crossed for a better and more positive 2021.
